Lt. Governor Anthony Brown Calls on Middle Schoolers to be Stewards of the Environment

Lt. Governor joins Thomas G. Pullen School students for Earth Day Celebration and tree-planting

LANDOVER, Md. – Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown today joined the 6th, 7th and 8th graders of Thomas G. Pullen School in Landover for their celebration of Earth Day.  During an assembly, Brown called on the students to do their part to fight against global warming and become stewards of their environment.

“The little things you do everyday, will go a long way to ensure that our planet remains healthy when you grow up, when your children grow up, and when their children grow up,” Brown said. “Protecting the environment is something every one of can be a part of if we just make the efforts to do the small things well.”

Brown was introduced to the student body by Sidney Vernon, a student member of the school’s environmental club. Following the assembly, Brown joined students to plant several trees on the school grounds. The trees were donated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Today’s event at Thomas G. Pullen School was one of several that Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown have planned for Earth Week. Brown plans to participate in the Earth Day Festival at Robert Goddard Montessori School in Seabrock, Maryland later this week.

During the 2008 Legislative Session, the O’Malley/Brown Administration fought for a greener Maryland and cleaner Chesapeake Bay. Notable accomplishments included the creation of the Chesapeake Bay 2010 Trust Fund and a renewed commitment to Transit Oriented Development.
