Governor O'Malley Swears In Members to University System of Maryland Board of Regents and Maryland Higher Education Commission

Swears in Members to Other Various Boards

 

Annapolis, MD (July 11, 2008) – Governor Martin O’Malley today swore in two individuals to the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, a 17-member board that oversees the University System of Maryland’s academic, administrative, and financial operations. Governor O’Malley today also swore in two new members to the Maryland Higher Education Commission, a commission that is responsible for establishing statewide policies for Maryland public and private colleges and universities and for-profit career schools. In addition, Governor O’Malley swore in members to other various Boards and Commissions, including the State Racing Commission, the Board of Trustees for the SEED School and the State Board of Dental Examiners.

“I am proud to swear in the men and women today to fill key posts in Maryland’s state government,” said Governor O’Malley. “We have worked hard to compile a list of individuals from across our State with diverse geographic and ethnic backgrounds to continue to help protect Maryland’s priorities. I am confident these talented and diverse citizens will be an asset to these important posts.”

Below is background information on the appointees:

Norman Augustine, University System of Maryland Board of Regents – Mr. Augustine, a Montgomery County resident, is the former President and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation. Mr. Augustine is a former lecturer and professor at Princeton University.

Joshua L. Michael, Student Regent, University System of Maryland Board of Regents – Mr. Michael, a Howard County resident, is currently a junior at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County majoring in Political Science. Mr. Michael has previously served as the Student Commissioner on the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Student member of the Maryland State Board of Education.

Kevin Liles, Board of Trustees of Residential Boarding Education Programs (SEED School) – Mr. Liles, a Baltimore native, is the Executive Vice-President of Warner Music Group and founder of the Kevin Liles for a Better Baltimore and Make it Happen Foundations. Mr. Liles also serves as a board member of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and is author of the book, Make It Happen: The Hip Hop Generation Guide to Success.

Mark R. Frazer, D.D.S., Maryland Higher Education Commission – Dr. Frazer, a Calvert County resident, is the former Mayor of North Beach and has served as Calvert County Commissioner. Currently, Dr. Frazer, a Dentist, is in private practice and also serves on the Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission for District 12 – Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties.

Chung K. Pak, Maryland Higher Education Commission (reappointment) – Mr. Pak, who resides in Montgomery County, currently serves as an Administrative Patent Judge. Mr. Pak is also a member of the Montgomery County Asian American Police Advisory Committee.

Mary Louise Preis, State Racing Commission – Mary Preis is a former member of the House of Delegates from District 34 in Harford County. Ms. Preis, who now resides in Baltimore County, has most recently served as Vice-President for Corporate and Community Relations for Citigroup and as the Commissioner of Financial Regulation.

Charles G. Tildon, III, State Racing Commission – Mr. Tildon, a Baltimore City resident, is the Vice-President and Chief Market Officer for United Way of Central Maryland. Mr. Tildon is also a Board Member for the Live Baltimore Marketing Center.

Alberto Alejandro, D.M.D., State Board of Dental Examiners – Dr. Alejandro, who resides in Baltimore County, is currently a general Dentist with Kernan Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. Dr. Alejandro is also a clinical instructor for the University of Maryland School of Dental Surgery.

Ngoc Q. Chu, D.D.S., State Board of Dental Examiners – Dr. Chu, a Montgomery County resident, operates a private Dentist and Prosthodontist practice. In addition, Dr. Chu is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland Dental School.

Maurice Sebastian Miles, D.D.S., State Board of Dental Examiners – Dr. Miles, a Prince George’s County resident, is currently a Dentist with Laurel Lakes Family Dentistry. Dr. Miles also volunteers his time with Donated Dental.
