Back to School Safety
How long has it been since you reviewed the rules of the road? There’s no better time to brush up on traffic safety particularly with the start of the “back to school” season.
Wrong choices on the road have dire consequences. By following some basic rules outlined in Maryland’s Choose Safety for Life campaign we can save lives. Just think, B-SAFE: Buckle up, Slow down – speeding kills, Always drive sober, Focus, Everyone share the road – everyone gets home. By following these guidelines and working together, more than 600 lives could be saved every year.
With the opening of school upon us for most of Maryland, drivers are reminded to be alert and obey all traffic laws when on the road, particularly when traveling in school zones during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal times. Parents should also talk to their children about traffic and pedestrian safety so they can do their part in getting to and from school safely.
Take a moment to review the rules of the road by clicking here. The site offers helpful suggestions for motorists when driving near school buses; tips for parents whose children take the bus; and pointers for children who walk to school.
Best wishes to all for a safe, productive and enlightening school year!

School busses will soon be back on the road. That means motorists have to keep a sharp look-out for school busses, and stop when the busses stop.
Remember the Rule - Drivers MUST STOP at least 20 feet away from school buses, when the red lights are flashing and the Stop signal arm is extended.
Governor O’Malley and the children of Maryland thank you Thank You for Stopping when the School busses Stop.
